Creating a great look for your costume doesn't always mean going out and treating yourself to a new wardrobe (althouhg it IS a great excuse!). With just a little time and effort, you can transform items from your wardrobe into clothing that's will dazzle! With our upcoming Winter Ball theme epitomising the essence of sparkle - here's 5 easy ways to create a glitzy look! 1 - If you like it, stick some crystals on it! Everyone has heard of Swarovski crystals- but did you know there are other brands which also provide sparkly crystals - although Swarovski are some of the most reflective out there, Preciosa and Eimass brand crystals also give a fantastically sparkly effect! They're readily available online in lots of different colors! Sticking the crystals on takes a little bit of technique - luckily there's plenty of advice on how to apply them online. Just be aware that 'hot fix' crystals require a special applicator, and while they will probably last longer than glue applied crystals, we're recommending that if this is your first crystal application project, you just keep to gluing them on.
But there's no need to stop there! Why not try applying them (with a less permanent adhesive) to your makeup or facepaint? 2 - In your face sparkle! Of course - you're probably wondering about where else you can apply glitter and sparkles. Well we've found a few videos that show some great ideas and ways to apply glitter and metallic facepaint looks.
Do remember that we recommend Snazaroo facepaint - but that you should always test any new products you're applying to your skin on a small patch to check for any allergic reactions. If in any doubt - consult a doctor! Also make any glitter you apply on your face is cosmetic grade, otherwise it might have sharp edges that could irritate your eyes. And while you're at it, please do use biodegradable glitter - visit www.glitternotlitter.org to find out why. 3 - Be a twinkling star So of all our recommendations, this is pretty much the hardest one to achieve, unless you happen to have a tame electronic engineer handy. But light fashion has really been on the increase over the last few years. Claire Danes made a real stir earlier this year in this dress: But with LEDs becoming cheaper than ever, it is now really acheiveable to get spectacular effects with nothing more than a bit of determination and some time! A few shops have even sprung up offering 'off the shelf' LED outfits - but do remember that you are talking about wearing electronics - so cleaning is going to be less straightforward than normal! We do hope these ideas have provided you with a bit of inspiration for our upcoming Winter Ball at the Cambridge Union Society - tickets are still available now!
