We just caught up with the fabulous Lena Mae who will be performing at our upcoming Winter Ball - from Russia with love, so she could share some of her thoughts and inspirations with us!
What is your main performance inspiration?
I hate to sound ambiguous but it can really be anything! I’ll be watching a movie or visiting a museum or reading a book or gazing at some scenery of some sort and I’ll notice the bubbles of an idea for a performance forming... it’s an exciting feeling!
What do you love most about burlesque and cabaret?
I love that there are really no boundaries. Performers are free to push themselves, and of course push the audiences too! There is so much going on in the scene, from acts simply celebrating the beauty of the human body, to those really challenging people’s outlooks and addressing taboos… it’s wonderful!
Can you give us a retro or burlesque style tip?
For day to day style :
Don’t follow fads, wear what makes you feel great! I’m an 80s lover and often get ridiculed for my hilarious trouser styles – but I really don’t mind…I’m comfortable in them and that’s the most important part.
For burlesque :
whatever you dress in (or undress out of!) make sure you do it with confidence, and have fun!
